01 / Overview

What is .eco?

A .eco domain is made for environmental organisations, green businesses and sustainability projects. A quick fact: The .eco extension launched in 2017 and is backed by environmental groups such as WWF.

.eco is open to everyone. Anyone can register a .eco domain, but you must activate it by creating an eco profile and agreeing to the registry's environmental pledge. You do not need any paperwork, and the domain is usually live within minutes of payment.

A simple example: A solar panel installer in Quetta can present its clean energy work on a .eco name.

You can register .eco for 1 to 10 years at a time. Renew before the expiry date to keep your website and email running. If it expires, there is a redemption window of about 30 days, but the restore fee is higher than a normal renewal.

Moving .eco to DomainWalay is simple. Unlock the domain at your current provider, get the auth code (also called EPP code), and start the transfer here. New registrations and recent transfers have a 60 day lock. Most transfers finish in 5 to 7 days.
